According to HuangdiNeijing·Lingshu (a section known as “Miraculous Pivot” in the Chinese medical classic of the Yellow Emperor), when coldness and warmth go out of balance in the intestines and stomach, the normal functions in this area will be influenced and cause the rise of pathogenic Qi (pathogenic factor). If the pathogenic Qi stay in that area, it is what we call Qi (energy) stagnation. When this happens, the circulation of Qi and blood will be hindered so that blockage occurs. Blockage is the best breeding ground for tumors.
Seen from a morbidity perspective, cancers of lung, gastric, esophagus, liver, breast, and cervical are the most common, occupying about 70%-80% of all malignant tumors. At present, cancer is the top lethal factor in the globe.
If you slightly take heed, you will quickly discover that the hollow organs are more easily invaded by cancer. A senior TCM doctor tells me this is because the hollow organs are more easily affected by coldness. Clinical studies also show that among all patients with cancers, people with a “cold” nature take up about 70%. To ladies, uterine fibroid, uterine cancer and breast cancer are all related to body coldness. To sum up, body coldness is at the root of all diseases. The symptom of body coldness is the high sensation of chill. From the perspective of TCM, the body with cold nature is due to Yang Deficiency (lack of vital energy).
Coldness leads to blockage and blockage results in cancer. In TCM, we always note the fact that 9 out 10 people have blocks. Without exaggeration, all diseases of man including cancer are all related to these blockages. The meaning of blockage is similar to siltation.
The main body blocks are Qi block, blood block, liquid block, food block, phlegm block, wine block and meat block. Among them, Qi block hurts the liver, blood block hurts the blood vessels, liquid block hurts the kidney, food block hurts the spleen and stomach, and phlegm block results in big diseases! According to HuangdiNeijing, there are following three aspects that lead to the blocks.
The pathogenic coldness enters into the main and collateral channelsof the body, as well as the intestines and stomach through skin and hair. Then it will cause the stasis of blood and Qi and the body fluid. With time, blockages occur. Putting it more simply, if we wear very little on chilly days to appear beautiful, the coldness will invade our body channels, intestines and stomach through our skin and body surface. Gradually, diseases will naturally occur.
Also, overeating will hurt the intestines and stomach and make them bleed. The extravasated blood stays inside the body and form blocks. This is what will unfailingly happen during the Spring Festival when people always feel uncomfortable and see weight rise because of overeating. And an even worse thing than overeating is that you not only eat too much but also catch cold.
If you catch cold and happen to have a lot of worries at the same time, it will lead to the disorder of blood and Qi circulation and body liquid flow as well. As a result, blocks occur. Seen from a modern perspective, if you are busy with your work and have a lot of stress and happen to catch cold, then the consequencescan be terrible.
In short, blockages occur through the interaction of cold coagulation, Qi stagnation, blood stasis and body liquid cease. And coldness bears the first brunt and it is the source of all diseases.
In this case, the solution is obvious– avoid being cold. The “air condition disease” in hot summers needs to be taken heed of; what also deserves more attention is the chill air in the early spring.
According to a study conducted by Dr.ToruAbo, an immunology expert and the professor in Japan’s Niigata University, on average, as man’s body temperature decreases 1℃, the immune power will decrease 37% accordingly. When the temperature increases 1℃, the immunity will show 60% more vitality. It means body temperature has a big influence on the function of immunity.
Having a fever is regarded as a defensive response of the body in order to increase its immunity power by temperature rising. When the body temperature decreases, we will have lower resistance against all kinds of bacteria inside the body, and in particular, the intestinal malignant bacteria will largely multiply and result in different diseases and contagion. Normally, no matter what the climate is, hot or cold, the body temperature should be ideally maintained between 36.5℃-37℃.
Even when the body temperature reaches 41.5℃, that is 5℃ beyond normal, while having fever, man won’t die. But on the contrary, if man’s temperature is 5℃ less than the normal, say 31.5℃, then the inner metabolic activity will stop and man cannot live any longer. The human body is not able to survive such a low temperature.
When the body gets colder, the metabolic activity in corresponding parts will accordingly decrease. Then it will influence the blood circulation that transmits necessary nutrients and metobolin. It will then possibly cause all kinds of illness from gynecological diseases to myocardial infarction, apoplexy, cancer, allergy and even mental diseases.
Among all the organs, there are two that won’t get cancer – the heart and spleen. The organs that easily cause canceration are esophagus, stomach, lung, large intestine and uterus. The reason lies at “coldness”. The organs which easily get coldness are also easier to have cancer. Therefore, as the heart is beating all the time and produce energy, the heat keeps it free from cancer. And the spleen is where erythrocyte gathers, so it’s also a warm place. This also corresponds to the observation of senior TCM doctors: the tubular and hollow organs which more easily get coldness are the most seen places to breed cancers.
When the body temperature is 35℃, cancer cells massively propagate; while the temperature reaches 39.3℃, they cannot propagate anymore and will naturally die out. Therefore, to keep the body warm and maintain the Heat Shock Protein is the golden rule for a sound immunity, and young and healthy physical condition.
The HSP (Heat Shock Protein) is a kind of protein generated through warm stimulation to the body. It is an indispensable substance in the cells that can duplicate different kinds of protein and help repair damaged cells. In other words, due to its assistance to cell repair, HSP gives the body the anti-aging power.
When the body temperature rises by 5℃ or above, the HSP will be generated. So it can be easily gained through sauna, moxibustion, bathing or other practices. At the same time, the heat can also duplicate plenty of healthy immune cells which can immediately discover and destroy cancer cells, bacteria and virus.
Normally, we use traditional moxa-moxibustion and far infrared warming moxibustion machine to conduct thermotherapy to increase the body temperature. The mugwort leaf is enriched in selenium. It not only features healing power itself, the shortwave radiation it generates while being burned also has strong penetrability. The shortcoming is the limited application scope since it is only fit for local heating. And the warmth it generates won’t last long. At this winter-spring turn, the climate is very changeable. Coldness and warmth alternate quite frequently. Especially in the southern areas, it is still damp and cold with winds and rains. As a result, human physiological conditions also show unstable features. If proper adjustments fail to be made or they are overly done, it will cause physical tiredness which is reason for diseases. So it’s very important to keep the body warm, especially old people.
Some additional practices include: sleep early to preserve blood and Qi and get up early to uplift the Yang Qi (vital energy); lead a regular diet to replenish blood and Qi; exercise regularly to stimulate the circulation of blood and Qi… Such practices play more important roles than thermotherapy.
