As we want to help nurture Chinese experts in wellness and the spa industry in China, SpaChina will select some top Chinese industry authorities to share their experiences on working as a professional in the China market.

Fifi Kao

Fifi Kao

Director & Editor-in-Chief, SpaChina Magazine
Fifi was born in Shanghai and joined SinoMedia in 1999 after studying psychology and graphic design in Tokyo. She rose from designer to become Editor-in-Chief of SpaChina Magazine, which this year celebrates its 14th anniversary. As the opinion leader of China's spa industry, she hosts the annual SpaChina Summit and Awards and publishes industry reports. She currently established WellBridge Academy, as a training and recruitment platform for China spa industry. In 2009, Fifi won the Most Creative Woman Director award from China Sorority. In her spare time, she practices Tai Chi and studies Traditional Chinese Medicine. She won silver medals at the Hong Kong International Wushu Festival in 2008 and 2009. Fifi is an international nutrition consultant with IARI (International Accreditation and Registration Institute) and is fluent in English and Japanese. In 2005, she wrote and illustrated a children’s book, and now she is a mother of 2 children.

Lisa has over 30 years of experience in the beauty industry, in all aspects from as a technician to regional manager. She has spent the last 17 years as a consultant and educator, helping companies maximize operations performance in both front and back of house, and consults on a variety of topics including finances & compensation, marketing, inventory management, retailing, human resource development, and business process improvement. Lisa is also a Contributing Editor at Dayspa Magazine, Task Force Chair for the Global Wellness Institute Consulting Initiative, a regular contributor to global trade publications, a highly-rated speaker at spa and beauty industry conferences, and offers spa management courses across the globe. For over 20 years, Sam’s passion for wellness has led her on a journey through every aspect of today’s spa industry. A proven manager, trainer, therapist, retailer, and one of Asia-Pacific’s most experienced spa consultants, Sam has been blessed to work with many of the region’s top brands. Sam’s mission is to “make the world happier and healthier”, and she sees the spa industry as an ideal vehicle with which to achieve this. Her specialty is setting up and managing destination spas and wellness centers. Sam runs international courses in spa development and management, is a published author and popular speaker. Twice awarded for her leadership in the spa industry, Sam is currently founding President of the International Health & Wellness Alliance.
Laurent Boillot

Laurent Boillot joined Guerlain in 2002 as Deputy Managing Director in charge of Marketing. In 2005 he was appointed Managing Director in charge of International Marketing and Guerlain’s Swiss Subsidiary. In October 2007 he was appointed President and CEO of Guerlain. Since January 2014 he has also been Executive VP of Make Up For Ever and President and CEO of a new LVMH cosmetics venture, Cha Ling. Laurent graduated from the ESC French Business School in Rouen. His career began in 1988 at the Havas Advertising Group. In 1990 he joined the Unilever Group, working within the Elida Fabergé division, where he held increasingly senior roles within the marketing division. Prior to joining Guerlain, he held the position of European Marketing and Development Director for Haircare.

Alexander is a retail psychologist, futurist and thought provoker who came into the industry as a hairdresser, spending ten years with Vidal Sassoon. Realizing his true passion was on the business side, Alexander ultimately acquired 320 salons in Europe as well as a Ph.D in behavioral psychology. Intrigued by how emotions influence consumer behavior and buying decisions, he turned his attentions to helping retailers and salons design environments that tap into these emotionally driven needs. In 2006, Alexander founded Eurisko Design, a comprehensive salon design, distribution and consulting company. He has helped design more than 2,000 salons in the U.S. and Europe. Alexander has also created and presented a wide range of educational courses for the beauty industry.
Dr. Deepak Dudmande

Holistic Health Expert
From young age, Dr Dudmande studied the ancient Indian classic of four Vedas under his Sanskrit tutor. He always had the feeling that the whole life existence is not limited to the physical body. He gradually shifted toward the study and research of various ancient health systems, such as Indian Ayurveda, Arabia medicine, homeopathy, Indian fork healing art, Chinese traditional medicine etc. In over 30 years of diligent study and research, he has revived two long forgotten ancient Indian healing methods from Ayurveda, namely healing mudra and flower fragrance therapy, which had been the forerunner of the western aromatherapy. He also made a number of important discoveries in herbal treatment of chronicle disease such as diabetes, high blood pressure. Due to his outstanding contribution in the medical fields, he received four national awards, including the very prestigious Indira Gandhi Sewa Ratna Award by All India Economy Survey Award Council in 2012.

With diverse entrepreneurial talents and a mission to create life-changing experiences, Chicco and Lahra created Fivelements Bali as the first of a new genre of wellness destinations that bridge the wisdom of traditional cultures with innovative healing concepts. Taking the role as the managing director at Fivelements, Italian native Chicco Tatriele is the key principal overseeing operations management and project development for the resort with his extensive experience in executive production management, business development and innovative entrepreneurship across Europe and Asia. Lahra Tatriele, a Korean-born New Yorker with expertise in strategic planning, wellness concepts and design in the United States and Asia, serves as the wellness strategist spearheading concept design & development, interiors and wellness programme creation for Fivelements.

A Hong Kong Chinese, Mr. Cheung has been a pioneer in developing high-quality health club facilities in China for more than 30 years. He has been endeavoring to bring to China the latest technologies and products from Europe and America. Under his leadership, PA Group and its subsidiary PA Wellness now form the most recognized technical spa consulting company for facilities in luxury hotels, resorts and other leading properties. e.g., Shangri-la hotels, Ritz-Carlton hotels, Four Seasons hotels, Mandarin Oriental hotels, and Peninsula hotels.
Toru Ogasawa

Toru Ogasawa

Founder and CEO of Okinawa Watsu Center
Toru Ogasawara graduated from Chuo University with Bachelor in Law and began his career at a hotel management company in 1992. He then joined a therapeutic water therapy programme for children with special needs when he himself developed deep interests to Watsu. Trained under the guidance of Watsu founder, Harold Dull, and many other renowned aquatic instructors in USA, Ogasawara became a certified practitioner and instructor for the Worldwide Aquatic Bodywork Association (WABA). He moved to the subtropical island of Okinawa in 2009, where he opened the Okinawa Watsu Center, providing trainings and professional sessions at the site as well as several other spas and hotels in Japan, Taiwan, Maldives, and now in China.
Yukako Kitajima

After 1-year working in Australia as a Japanese language teacher, Yukako Kitajima started her career as an aroma therapist. To deepen her bodywork, she visited Harbin Hot Spring in California to get training from finest Watsu instructors like Harold Dull, Minakshi, and Theri Thomas in 2003 and became Watsu Practitioner in 2005. She was the first Watsu therapist to provide professional sessions at the spa in Japan. In 2009, she founded Okinawa Watsu Center with Toru Ogasawara, her husband and partner. She continued her training to become Watsu Basic Instructor in 2010 and Waterdance Practitioner in 2016. She also practices Craniosacral, which is very much compatible with the aquatic bodywork too. Kitajima has been the visiting Practitioner for Amanenu, Amanpulo, and Anantara.
